Protecting an American Treasure

The Bodie Hills Conservation Partnership is a coalition of organizations working toward the permanent protection of the Bodie Hills, an American treasure with exceptional scenic, historic and recreational values.

We are working to create a healthy, sustainable future for the Bodie Hills that combines conservation and access, honors tradition and promotes the region's scenic beauty.

By preserving this special place for future generations, the surrounding communities will reap long-term benefits.

Bodie Hills Conservation Partnership is a fiscally sponsored project of The Sierra Fund, a non-profit tax-exempt 501 (c) (3) organization with the mission to restore ecosystem and community resiliency in the Sierra Nevada.

April Sall, Director of the Bodie Hills Conservation Partnership
After completing a degree in Biology from Humboldt State University, April Sall began working for the NPS at Joshua Tree National Park and Point Reyes National Seashore in the Resource Mgmt and Fire depts. She then took the position of Preserve Manager for both Pioneertown Mountains and Mission Creek Preserves for The Wildlands Conservancy (TWC), which owns and manages over 150,000 acres in the state and provides free outdoor education. In 2007, April took on the role of Conservation Director for TWC, working diligently with staff and other local, state, and federal entities to advocate for additional conservation designations and responsible energy development in the California Desert and TWC’s expansion into Northern Ca.

She was the lead for TWC on the Ca Desert Protection Act of 2010, 2011, and 2014, introduced by Senator Dianne Feinstein. In 2015 she left TWC after 10+ years and took on a consulting role with Conservation Lands Foundation working on the transition of the monuments in the bill to an Antiquities Act ask. She worked with local and regional communities, non-profits, businesses, and elected officials to garner support for the proposed monuments. In February 2016 President Obama designated 3 new National Monuments in the region- the Sand to Snow, Mojave Trails, and Castle Mountains.

She also served on the BLM’s California Desert District Advisory Council as the Public at Large representative for 6 years and was elected Chair, and is still the Chair of the California Desert Coalition. She sits on other boards and open space and conservation committees. April is an avid hiker and enjoys outdoor recreation and exploration.
